This is the famous staircase in the Loretto Chapel. Apparently the nuns had a chapel with no stairs so they prayed to St. Joseph, who was a carpenter, for 9 days for stairs and on the 9th day a man came and built this staircase that was supposedly impossible to build. No nails were used and there is no center support. Some say that man was St. Joseph himself.
We also admired the whirligigs in the Chapel Courtyard, and you can too if you click on this video clip.
